In conjunction with the statement by the Board of Directors of Widnes Vikings we would like to re-iterate that VIQI is extremely keen to play its part in helping the coach to build a strong part time team for the 2020 season that will be challenging at the top end of the table, we are also mindful of the need to act quickly to support the club in doing this at the earliest opportunity.
For nearly 20 years VIQI has supported the club with the recruitment and retention of players and we are delighted to be able to offer this support as we look to build the future of our club. Early hand over of these funds will enable the club to commence that process now.
So, since the administration announcement, VIQI has handed over £197,000 to the club. None of this would have been achieved without you, the VIQI members. This is a phenomenal effort and with your continued support and involvement we hope to grow VIQI into the most significant fan funded organisation in professional rugby league.
In reply to a query raised by some VIQI members, we are happy to confirm the details on how much money VIQI have paid to the club since it went into administration.
March 2019 – We paid £100,000 as collected via the GoFundMe campaign initiated by Beth Pennington, with contributions also coming from VIQI members and thousands of supporters within the town and indeed around the world. This also went towards general funds and the purchase of one share (with one vote) in the new company Widnes Rugby League Club Limited. This was the most significant contribution in ensuring the clubs immediate future.
April 2019 – We paid £25,000 that had mainly been donated as cash or cheques. This had been collected via the numerous fundraising campaigns around the local area, including from local businesses and schools. This money was provided to the club to help ensure the club continued to function on a day-to-day basis whilst systems and processes including banking arrangements were being set up. In addition the money was used to support player retention and prevent a 20% pay cut being implemented across both staff and players.
July 2019 – We have just sent a further £72,000 to the club and this has been generated solely by the VIQI members. This will specifically strengthen the clubs finances and we can confirm that none of this money has been utilised to pay operational costs or any club debts.
Once again we would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued loyalty and generous support to VIQI.
Up The Vikings!
