+ The club is saved now, do I still need to do anything more?

Yes, whilst the fans have been fantastic with the funds that have already been raised, these have been utilised to help prevent the club from going into liquidation. This was a fantastic achievement and over £130k was donated to help achieve this. However, the club is still very much in a state of ‘Being Saved’ and as such it is imperative that we retain as much support as possible. This season is going to be one of our biggest challenges and without season ticket money, the loss of sponsorship money and the fact that as a new board we are still honouring those commitments, it means we have significantly less funding to see us through this season. Hence your support is more important than ever

+ How many members do we need to make this work?

When we launched the VIQI campaign, we stated that we initially wanted in the region of 1,000 to 1,500 members. This number was achieved and enabled us to commit to providing a more sustainable business model as we move forward.

These numbers also demonstrated that the fans had sufficient appetite to back the club and wanted to grow it to realise greater success.

We have now had a little more time to understand the business model and it is apparent that we would need to grow these numbers further to compete at the level we all aspire to. Having a strong and thriving membership scheme will play a significant role in some of the clubs future decisions, in relation to the Academy and the first team playing environment

+ What is VIQI’s vision for the club?

We want to see Widnes Vikings financially secure, back in Super League and challenging for trophies

+ What is VIQI?

VIQI is the Vikings Quid’s In scheme. Jason Shaw founded VIQI back in October 1999 and up until 2018 the scheme had raised nearly £200,000 for the club. It is a not for profit Registered Limited Company - VIQI Ltd

+ Does VIQI hold shares in Widnes Vikings?

Yes. £25,000 of VIQI funds were used to purchase 1 share

+ I was a member of VIQI before March 2019, how do I sign up to the new online VIQI GoCardless scheme?

Prior to March 2019, VIQI had around 180 members paying varying amounts. If you are one of the few historic members still on the old paper based system, we would appreciate it if you could transfer across to our new GoCardless system. Please get in touch via the Contact Us Page for more information on how to do this

+ I know someone who wants to join but they do not have access to the Internet, how can they sign up?

A hard copy form can be downloaded here, we can also send out standing order forms, which need to be filled in, and returned to us. If you contact us with their details we can send this out to them. They can also be collected from the Widnes Vikings Club Shop

+ I want to join but I’m not currently in the UK, what options are there for me?

We currently use GoCardless for payments in the United Kingdom. PayPal is used for Australia, New Zealand, USA and Europe. Please see our international sign up page for more details

+ What happens if I can’t afford to pay my membership anymore?

You are free to cancel at any time and then you can also re-join at any point

+ I cannot afford the preferred £15 a month. Can I subscribe for less?

Membership is suggested at a minimum of £15 per month and will be taken as a monthly Direct Debit. However, we recognise that Membership needs to be accessible to people with a range of budgets and therefore, there are a number of options available starting as low as £5 a month. Please select the option that best suits your budget and is affordable

+ How do I increase of change my current donation amount?

Existing GoCardless subscriptions can be amended by emailing with the amount of your current monthly donation along with the new monthly amount in £5 increments i.e. £10, £15, £20 etc., your preferred monthly payment date and a contact telephone number. You will receive confirmation of changes in an email from GoCardless.

Members who make their donation via Standing Order set up as part of the original VIQI scheme (i.e. Pre February 2019) will need to speak to their own Bank or Building Society to arrange for the Standing Order amount to be increased or changed. Details of the change should be sent to to allow membership records to be updated.

+ Who are GoCardless?

GoCardless is our payment provider and your Direct Debit to VIQI will appear as coming from GoCardless Ltd on your bank statement with VIQI in the reference section

+ I want to change my bank details you have for me, how can I do this?

The easiest and quickest way for you to do this is to contact GoCardless directly, who is our payment provider, you can either give them a call on 0207 183 8674 or send an email to

+ Does VIQI have a Privacy Notice? Comply with GDPR?
